Donruss 2017 Blaster and Some PC Additions

I picked up a blaster from Wal-Mart and had some pretty good luck.  I pulled 3 Cubs base cards, got a relic and two very solid serial numbered cards.

Kyle Schwarber, Kyle Hendricks & Jon Lester
The Pete Rose nickname variation is a fun little card.  Albert Pujols is numbered 16/49.

My hit from the blaster is a jersey relic of Brian Ellington.  I'll throw this onto the trade page.

My favorite card from the box is a gold press proof of Jose Altuve.  It is also the nickname variation numbered 65/99.  I have started a PC of Jose Altuve lately, so this card will fit in nicely.

Lastly, here are a couple of eBay pickups.  A Trevor Story auto from 2017 Gypsy Queen and Daryl Strawberry triple bat relic auto from 2016 Panini Pantheon.

The Pujols and Ellington are up for trade.  I'd also consider trading Trevor Story for the right card.  Thanks for stopping by!

Donruss 2017 Divisional Break

Donruss 2017 released and I picked up a couple of spots in an online random divisional box break.  I got the AL Central and AL East.  I was fortunate enough to get a hit from the box and a few nice looking inserts.  I didn't realize it at the time, but the site I went through only ships rookies, inserts and hits.  If I would have seen that on the site beforehand I wouldn't have bought it from there.

The first few cards that I got were a Andrew Benintendi Rated Rookie, Keston Hiura 191/349, and a Chris Sale Dominators insert.

I also got a variation of Frank Thomas with a pink back.

For the auto I hit a red Jose Abreu auto 86/99.

Later in the same week I was shopping on eBay and decided to pull the trigger on a Ryne Sandberg auto with the retro border.  This is actually my first Ryne Sandberg auto in card form.  I've had a signed 8x10 photo for a long time, but I definitely want to pick up some of his card autos.

Donruss 2017 has a nice border design and while there is no MLB team license, these cards are a good bang for their buck.

Mail Day #5 and LCS Visit

I hit up my LCS and decided to dig through the cheaper boxes of cards they have in the back.  After looking through the cheaper autos, I settled on a 2013 Topps Archives Ruben Sierra auto.  I enjoyed watching him play when my parents took me to the occasional Texas Ranger game in the early 90's.

When I got back up to the counter I decided to try my luck on a few packs of 2017 Topps Series 1 and I got a hit!  Continuing my streak of hitting Diamondbacks, I pulled a Paul Goldschmidt relic.  I'll throw this onto the "For Trade" page on the blog.

My last pack I got a "Rediscover Topps" Tom Glavine rookie card.  This has been the best buyback I've gotten from 2017 Topps for sure.

For my most recent mailday I was finally able to snag an Ian Happ auto.  I also picked up a Jorge Soler auto from 2015 Topps Heritage Baseball '51 Collection.  I really love the look of the '51 design and want to also pick up the Addison Russell auto from this set too.

Topps 2017 Heritage Blaster Box

Topps Heritage is a product I enjoy getting every year.  The throwback designs are fun to collect, even though it's tough to get a hit in this series, in my opinion.  I picked up the last blaster from my local Target on Friday.  I had my fingers crossed for a relic at best, but what I got is pretty good.

First up are the Cubs I got from my blaster.  The back of the Rizzo card is part of a picture puzzle.  I'm gonna try and track down the rest of it.

Here are the other fun cards I had in the box.

My favorite inserts are the Game cards.

And lastly, the best card in the box is a Madison Bumgarner Blue Chrome Refractor 51/68.

I've checked my box of cards at least 5 times to see if I got an error card, color swap, flip back, etc, but it doesn't look like I got any of those.  Overall this years design is one that I really like.  The downside is that there are so many variations that it can be overwhelming if you don't do your research.  I'm hoping Topps goes back to fewer variations in next years release.

2016 Topps Archives 65th Anniversary Box

I finally saw one of these boxes sitting at Wal-Mart and picked one up.  For the price I couldn't complain about getting a guaranteed autograph, although I don't have high expectations for pulling a big name player.

As you can see, these cards are reprints of other cards.  I took a picture of the back and put it down further below.  There are a few cool reprint cards in here, but nothing mind blowing.  Topps has reprinted some of these cards as "inserts" the past few years.

For my auto I got Scott Hatteberg.  The only reason I recognize this name is from the scene in Moneyball when he hits a walk off homerun to extend the A's winning streak. lol

I'll throw this onto the trade pile for anyone interested.  Thanks for stopping by!

Topps 2017 Series 1

I purchased a few jumbo packs from my LCS last week.  Unfortunately, I didn't get any hits, but I got a few Cubs and solid inserts.

  • Kyle Schwarber and Jorge Soler base cards.
  • Chicago Cubs World Series champions card!
  • Kris Bryant and Kyle Hendricks League Leaders inserts.

  • Dansby Swanson rookie card!
  • Evan Longoria 5 Tool insert - cool looking insert.
  • A gold Shin-Soo Choo out of /2017.

  • These 1987 inserts are awesome.  Brings back fond memories of collecting this set as a kid.

After not getting any hits from the jumbo packs, I decided to hit up eBay and check out the autos for sale.  I ended up finding a Jim Abbott auto and an Addison Russell manufactured Jackie Robinson patch for cheap.

A few days later I jumped back on eBay and saw a couple of the 2017 Topps Hobby Silver Packs for an affordable price.  I grabbed both of those and pulled a Jose Altuve auto!  These are chrome versions of the 1987 inserts and look pretty nice.  I'm pretty happy with the players I received.

If you are interested in any of these, (minus the Cubs cards), let me know and we can work out a trade!
