Mail Day #5 and LCS Visit

I hit up my LCS and decided to dig through the cheaper boxes of cards they have in the back.  After looking through the cheaper autos, I settled on a 2013 Topps Archives Ruben Sierra auto.  I enjoyed watching him play when my parents took me to the occasional Texas Ranger game in the early 90's.

When I got back up to the counter I decided to try my luck on a few packs of 2017 Topps Series 1 and I got a hit!  Continuing my streak of hitting Diamondbacks, I pulled a Paul Goldschmidt relic.  I'll throw this onto the "For Trade" page on the blog.

My last pack I got a "Rediscover Topps" Tom Glavine rookie card.  This has been the best buyback I've gotten from 2017 Topps for sure.

For my most recent mailday I was finally able to snag an Ian Happ auto.  I also picked up a Jorge Soler auto from 2015 Topps Heritage Baseball '51 Collection.  I really love the look of the '51 design and want to also pick up the Addison Russell auto from this set too.

Topps 2017 Heritage Blaster Box

Topps Heritage is a product I enjoy getting every year.  The throwback designs are fun to collect, even though it's tough to get a hit in this series, in my opinion.  I picked up the last blaster from my local Target on Friday.  I had my fingers crossed for a relic at best, but what I got is pretty good.

First up are the Cubs I got from my blaster.  The back of the Rizzo card is part of a picture puzzle.  I'm gonna try and track down the rest of it.

Here are the other fun cards I had in the box.

My favorite inserts are the Game cards.

And lastly, the best card in the box is a Madison Bumgarner Blue Chrome Refractor 51/68.

I've checked my box of cards at least 5 times to see if I got an error card, color swap, flip back, etc, but it doesn't look like I got any of those.  Overall this years design is one that I really like.  The downside is that there are so many variations that it can be overwhelming if you don't do your research.  I'm hoping Topps goes back to …

2016 Topps Archives 65th Anniversary Box

I finally saw one of these boxes sitting at Wal-Mart and picked one up.  For the price I couldn't complain about getting a guaranteed autograph, although I don't have high expectations for pulling a big name player.

As you can see, these cards are reprints of other cards.  I took a picture of the back and put it down further below.  There are a few cool reprint cards in here, but nothing mind blowing.  Topps has reprinted some of these cards as "inserts" the past few years.

For my auto I got Scott Hatteberg.  The only reason I recognize this name is from the scene in Moneyball when he hits a walk off homerun to extend the A's winning streak. lol

I'll throw this onto the trade pile for anyone interested.  Thanks for stopping by!

Topps 2017 Series 1

I purchased a few jumbo packs from my LCS last week.  Unfortunately, I didn't get any hits, but I got a few Cubs and solid inserts.

Kyle Schwarber and Jorge Soler base cards.Chicago Cubs World Series champions card!Kris Bryant and Kyle Hendricks League Leaders inserts.
Dansby Swanson rookie card!Evan Longoria 5 Tool insert - cool looking insert.A gold Shin-Soo Choo out of /2017.
These 1987 inserts are awesome.  Brings back fond memories of collecting this set as a kid.
After not getting any hits from the jumbo packs, I decided to hit up eBay and check out the autos for sale.  I ended up finding a Jim Abbott auto and an Addison Russell manufactured Jackie Robinson patch for cheap.

A few days later I jumped back on eBay and saw a couple of the 2017 Topps Hobby Silver Packs for an affordable price.  I grabbed both of those and pulled a Jose Altuve auto!  These are chrome versions of the 1987 inserts and look pretty nice.  I'm pretty happy with the players I received.

If you are int…

Mail Day #4 - Auto's and Inserts

I've got some bigger things to post, but I wanted to do a quick pick up post here before I forget.  I have done some trading recently with some friends on Twitter and picked up a few cards from eBay.  None of the Twitter pickups are Cubs.  However, I did go to my LCS and picked up a couple packs of 2016 Topps Heritage Minor League and found a Rizzo I didn't have in my PC.

First up is an Andy Pettite from 2016 Bowman's Best, a Harold Baines auto /50 from 2016 Stadium Club, and an Anthony Rizzo /199 from 2013 Topps Archives.

The Pettite insert is awesome because they used the 1996 design.  I plan on picking up more of these.  The Baines auto popped up on eBay for cheap, so I grabbed it for trade bait.Lastly, the Rizzo my LCS had, so I grabbed it for the PC.
Next up I have a couple of Gypsy Queen autos of Trevor Cahill and Christian Yelich.
The Trevor Cahill auto goes to the 2016 Cubs  roster auto/relic collection I started.  Check the PC tab on the blog to see how that collec…

Awesome Mail Day! First Superfractor!

I use for case breaks and "pick a pack" from time to time.  I have had some decent hits before, but none like I had last week.  The way pick a pack works is you go to the site and buy random hobby packs with a number.  Then the packs are mixed up out of the box (on live video feed) and numbered randomly.

I purchased some packs of 2016 Donruss Optic Baseball and Football, 2016 Panini Classic Football.  I also was given a free pack of 2016 NBA Hoops.  Each pack purchased last week got you an entry into a drawing for a 2015 Spectra Garrett Grayson Superfractor.  I had 10 entries and actually won!

First up is the Superfractor I won.  It's of Garrett Grayson from the Saints and it's the first one I have ever had.  Looks really nice in person.

From Optic Baseball I pulled a Manny Machado green parallel 2/5 and a Buster Posey Diamond Kings gold parallel 3/10!

For my NBA Hoops pack I pulled an auto of Dakari Johnson.  I don't follow much basket…

Gems Of The Game Blaster Box

Happy New Year!  After a very busy Christmas season for me I finally have some time to post some things I bought.  First up, I decided to take a gamble with one of those Gems Of The Game blaster boxes they sell at Wal-mart and Target.  You get 1 graded card, 8 regular packs, 1 fat pack and 1 bonus pack.

First, the graded card...and I got Cole Hamels from 2011 Topps.  Not too shabby of a player, although I'd be lying if I said I didn't wish for any Cubs player or a Trout, but I doubt they put many of those in there.

Packs number 1 and 2 are from USA Baseball Champions.  I did pull a numbered card of Ryne Stanek, but that was about it.

Packs 3 and 4 are from Topps 2012 Series One.  Some neat looking inserts, but again, mostly base stuff.

Packs 5 and 6 are Topps 2014 Series One.  More base cards and I got a Samardzija. MEH

Pack 7 is.....Pinnacle?!?!  This brand still exists in some capacity?!?!

Packs 8 & 9 are just stickers.  BOO!

Finally, the "fat pack" that was re…
